Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has returned to training after he was suspended for travelling to Saudi Arabia without permission.
This follows his suspension after the trip, but PSG has not officially rescinded Messi’s disciplinary punishment.
With this latest development, the 35-year-old will be available for their next league game against Ajaccio on Saturday.
Messi had apologised over the incident last Friday but was left out of the squad for their 3-1 win at Troyes on Sunday.
Against expectations based on the suspension, PSG posted a picture of him training on social media. The image’s caption read: “The Argentinian striker from Paris Saint-Germain was back in training on Monday, 8 May.”
PSG are six points above Lens and eight in front of Marseille. There are four rounds of Ligue 1 games remaining this season.
The inconsistent performance of the Ligue 1 giant has made the fans criticise the club, as a fraction of them protested at the homes of Messi, Neymar, and some top players to register their displeasure.
This had cast doubt on the future of Messi at the club, contrasting to the period before the world cup when it looked like he would extend his stay at Parc Des Princes.
After returning from the World Cup, which led Argentina to win, Messi could not replicate his form, and Bayern Munich ousted the club from the Champions League.
This has made the double club security at the homes of the players and the manager, Christophe Galtier, who was not also left out in the protest as his residence was also visited.
As things stand, Messi can negotiate and sign pre-contractual agreements with clubs and eventually decide his future.
It’s unlikely he will stay at PSG beyond the coming summer.
Until then, his future remains unclear as speculation will continue to link him with many too clubs across Europe, America, and Asia.
