Lionel Messi’s former agent Fabian Soldini has revealed the star footballer could not sleep at night for more than a year after losing the FIFA World Cup final against Germany in 2014. Argentina suffered a 1-0 loss against Germany in Brazil after Mario Gotze scored from the volley to help his team get over the line.
Messi had played an instrumental role in taking La Albiceleste to the final of the marquee event as he had scored four goals and provided one assist in seven matches. However, it was heartbreak for Argentine in the final against Germany.
Messi was obviously disappointed after he could lead his team to glory in Brazil.
Soldini said on TyC Sports: “When I was at his house, after 10 years of not seeing him, he told me ‘Fabi, it’s been a year since I woke up at night thinking about the final in Brazil. I can’t sleep’. And I can assure you. He turns it on its head.”
Soldini added that the PSG Saint Germain striker deserves to win the World Cup title in his glorious career.
“I see him as very mature, very calm. I see the group as very united. It seems to me that he deserves it with the race he did, up there.”
Meanwhile, Messi and co. will begin their FIFA World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia on November 22. Subsequently, they will take on Mexico and Poland in Group C of the tournament.
On the other hand, Messi could not get going at PSG Saint-Germain in the previous season as he scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists for PSG Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.
However, he has been able to turn the tables in the ongoing season. The talisman has scored 11 goals and has provided 10 assists in 16 games for PSG this season across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Argentina last won the FIFA World Cup back in 1986 and it will be interesting to note if they would be able to go all the way in the quadrennial event. Messi has already revealed that the forthcoming showpiece will be his last World Cup.
