Jonathan David has been a metronome for LOSC Lille this season. He has been one of the most in-form strikers in Europe and is also on many clubs radar. The Canadian forward has been in sensational form for Lille especially in Ligue 1.
David has scored 21 goals in 30 appearances for Lille across competitions this season. Hence clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in the young Canadian. However David recently told in an interview that Spanish giants FC Barcelona is his favourite club.
“Barcelona has always been my favorite club since I was a kid,” he told in an interaction with Winamax FC.
It is understood that despite having a contract with him till 2025, Jonathan David may leave Lille this summer. Even Lille manager Paulo Fonseca has admitted that it won’t be easy for Lille to hold onto the player for another season due to his growing stocks all across the globe.
“It will be difficult to keep Jonathan David at the club next season. There are not many strikers with his skills and numbers in Europe. He’s just 22. I think top European clubs will try to sign Jonathan David,” Fonseca told La Voix de Sports.
David’s exceptional form has helped Lille propel to sixth spot in the league.
Meanwhile, Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga who has been overlooked by manager Erik ten Hag shared that FC Barcelona showed interest in him in the January transfer window.
Elanga, who has only featured 24 times this season and out fo which only seven appearances have come as a starter. He has managed three assists. The Swedish youngster confirmed that Barcelona were keen to sign him in the winter transfer window.
United have already won the Carabao Cup but they are looking for more silverware this season. They are contenders to win the FA Cup and the Europa League and have done well to finish in the top four in the Premier League. Hence, they will play in the Champions League next season.
Elanga feels that a strong finish is needed for the Red Devils as they have fought very hard this season to make a strong comeback. United are gradually getting back to their old glory and winning these two cup competitions and getting back to Champions League will highlight it even more.
“We have a long season left and we have to finish the best we can. Now we have managed to win a trophy. We are in the semifinals of the FA Cup and we continue to play in the Europa League. That’s what we focus on,” Elanga added.
Manchester United will travel to face Newcastle United right after the international break in the Premier League.
