Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has clarified the situation between him and Barcelona teenage star Lamine Yamal after videos circulated on Monday showing the Poland striker shunning the teenager in Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Alaves on Sunday.
Sunday’s game at the Stadio Olimpico saw Lewandowski score a second-half brace to help Barcelona record a comeback victory, and while it was a result that poured cold water on claims that Barcelona and the striker were in crisis, it erupted claims that all may not be well between within the Barcelona camp.
In the short video posted on social media, Lewandowski was seen ignoring Lamine Yamal’s outstretched hands during the game. While fans have been trying to analyse what made the striker shum the teenager’s outstretched hands in the game, the former Bayern Munich striker has come forward to clear the air, saying there was no comment on what happened and that it was a total accident.
“There is nothing to comment on, it was a total accident. Sometimes I shout during a match, but that’s normal. When it comes to my physical condition, I felt good against Alavés. My confidence on the pitch was also completely different. Goals always give you peace of mind and motivation. Especially since I haven’t had many chances in recent matches, and without them, it’s more difficult to change something. I hope that now I will score regularly and have chances.” Lewandowski said.
Lewandowski commented while away on international duty with Poland ahead of the national team’s Euro 2024 qualifier against the Czech Republic and Latvia on Friday and next Tuesday, respectively, in must-win matches if they want to qualify for the tournament scheduled for Germany.
Lewandowski ended a nine-game goal drought with the brace and helped Barcelona return to winning ways after losing to Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League during the week.
