From London, it is reported that Arsenal sent the first transfer bid to Leeds for Brazilian star Raphinha.
The Gunners want to strengthen the team’s attack for the new season, where they hope to win some Silverware.
The Athletic reports that the first offer sent by Arsenal was below the price Leeds set for the player and was therefore rejected.
But this is only the beginning of the negotiations since Arsenal, especially its boss Mikel Arteta, are determined to take over the player’s services.
The problem is that the Gunners have quite a bit of competition as several clubs are interested in the Brazilian’s services.
In the last few hours, photos of Deco, Raphinha’s agent, with the president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, have circulated on the internet. It has been rumored for months that Barca would be very interested in the services of the winger.
In addition to Barca, Chelsea and Tottenham are also interested in signing the player. The Blues are said to have been close to closing a deal with Leeds. Still, government sanctions imposed on the club due to former owner Roman Abramovich’s link to Russia scuttled the deal.
Raphinha still has a two-year contract with Leeds, and the player has been instrumental in helping the club stay in the top flight last season.
Leeds are more than willing to sell Raphinha and generate a reasonable profit since they bought the player for around 19 million euros back in 2020. According to transfermarket, the price of the player today is around 45 million euros.
