Newly promoted Spanish La Liga side, Cadiz has begun their pre-season preparation.
The Yellow Submarine was looking to have secured a draw in the game against fellow La Liga side, Real Betis, but Juanmi struck three minutes to the end of the game to break their heart.
Although Cádiz CF was on the back foot mostly during the game, this would be a lesson of what to expect in the La Liga season, which begins in September.
They had succeeded in holding Betis, but fatigue later set in, forcing some substitution, and Betis had more quality on the bench than the newly promoted team.
They began the match with a first eleven that includes players who got promotion for the clubs, and some players returning from loan deals, like Matos Matos and new signing, Álvaro Negredo.
The team had Bodiger and Negredo performing the strikers’ role while Pombo, who had a good game, started on the left and Salvi on the right.
José Mari and Sergio González were in the central midfield position while Akapo, Marcos Mauro, Rhyner, and Matos formed a four-man defensive partnership. In goal was David Gil.
In th first half, Cadiz seemed to dictate the battle in the midfield, not allowing Real Betis to have a field day. The Verdiblancos wanted the ball, but their supplies were cut short.
The only time Cardiz looks like scoring was in the 36th minute when Salvi released the final pass to Negredo, who threw himself into the grass at fault.
Betis skipper, Joaquín, and Emerson got better of Matos when the duo made a ‘pupa’ to release Tello, who almost scored, but Akapo was there to stop him.
In the second interval, both coaches made some changes to inject freshness into their respective teams to give some players minutes of action.
At the beginning of the second half, there was the logical carousel of both coaches’ changes to distribute minutes, and the tempo of the game dropped a little bit.
But Sergio Canales later had a chance at goal by testing Sotres, who pushed the ball out for a corner.
Betis later had another chance in the 65th minute through Borja Iglesias. He made a dangerous run down the left and shot with his left foot, but it went across the frame of the goal.
The Verdiblancos later had another chance in the 78th minute with a shot from Delgado and Sotres was there again to parry it out for a corner.
Real Betis will later get a win from a freekick taken by Lainez and Juanmi finished it off with a tap in at the far post.
