As the quartet of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, and Real Betis continue their Supercopa de Espana journey in Saudi Arabia, the remaining sixteen teams in the league continue their league battles as they hope to gain more ground on the four teams.
While Barcelona and Real Madrid’s positions are unsurmountable for the teams on the league standings, Valencia and Real Betis could lose more grounds should the teams around them win.
Barcelona lead the La Liga table with three points, 41 points after 16 games played; this was as Real Madrid lost their last league game last weekend.
The Los Blancos have 38 points from 16 games as well, but they are comfortably 6 points away from Real Sociedad in third position. Real Sociedad leads Real Betis in fourth position with four points and can move seven points clear if they get a victory against Athletic Club on Saturday.
Real Betis can even drop further if Athletic Club wins that game or should either Villarreal or Atletico Madrid wins their respective fixtures.
Villarreal travels to Celta Vigo on Friday, while Atletico Madrid fixtures against Almeria happen on Sunday.
The final game of the match week will see Elche host Cadiz on Monday, but before then, Osasuna will play Mallorca, Getafe vs. Espanyol, and Sevilla will travel to Girona.
Meanwhile, it will be an El Clasico final in the Supercopa de Espana final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday after Barcelona beat Real Betis 4-2 on penalties on Thursday evening.
Both teams played a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes and extra time before heading to the penalties, where Barcelona came out superior.
It was a similar occurrence to what happened between Valencia and Real Madrid on Wednesday, as the Los Blancos had to go through to the final 4-2 on penalties.
Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the Supercopa final in Riyadh on Sunday.
