La Liga continues this weekend after two rescheduled encounters happened on Wednesday and Thursday as Barcelona defeated Real Betis 2-1 and Real Madrid got a victory against Valencia.
The Blaugrana are currently top of the table, five points above their nearest rivals, Real Madrid. Xavi’s tutored team, the most in-form team in the Spanish top flight, dropped points once in their last ten matches.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has dropped ten points in the same period losing to Villarreal and playing a goalless draw against Real Sociedad in January before getting a win over Valencia on Thursday.
This weekend, the Los Blancos will travel to Mallorca, who sit in tenth but have only won six points from a possible fifteen. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti understands that his team’s recent form hasn’t been the best.
“We’re not at our best. I think we’ve failed at some things, and we can always do better. We’re playing at the same level as last year, but Barcelona is playing better. We’re confident that we’ll fight until the end. We’ve improved, and we’re reaching the level to compete in all the tournaments. The roster is coming along well. We ended January in a good way, and our time will come.” Ancelotti told newsmen in the prematch conference.
Barcelona will hope Sevilla’s recent improvement doesn’t continue when they visit Camp Nou.
Jorge Sampaoli’s men have won ten points from a possible fifteen in the last five games and are now in 13th with 21 points. Atletico Madrid will welcome Getafe to Wanda Metropolitan as Athletic Club hosts Cadiz.
Other games will see Villarreal travel to Elche as Real Betis and Celta Vigo battle.
