Barcelona’s manager has revealed that the remaining three matchdays in La Liga will be dominated by the teams who need the results the most for their respective objectives left in the season.
Barcelona faces relegation-threatened Real Valladolid away from home Tuesday, and all eyes are on the team that the Champions will field, especially after losing their last game against Real Sociedad in a 2-1 defeat at Camp Nou last day Saturday.
However, Xavi has revealed that the next games will go to the team with more urgency to win, as the results will likely go to teams who have the urgency to win.
“What’s happening in these matchdays is that whoever has a higher need or ugency is getting the result. We’ll put out the best team possible tomorrow, and we want to win. We didn’t like losing to Real Sociedad at home. But they are a Champions League-level team. We want to finish with good feelings. Kounde’s played everything, and the moment has come to say stop. It’s just muscular fatigue; there’s nothing more to it.” Xavi said.
While Barcelona are champions with games to spare, Real Valladolid are in the relegation waters, having lost all last five games in La Liga. Valladolid sits in eighteen positions with 35 points from 35 games and three points from safety.
Other matches on Tuesday will see Real Sociedad host Almeria with little risk for both teams, who have relatively secured UEFA Champions League football and safety in La Liga, respectively, mathematically.
Villarreal could snatch UEFA Champions League football from Real Sociedad as they are just five points between the fourth and fifth-placed teams. Almeria sits in fourteenth with 39 points, but they still need a win for safety mathematically.
Celta Vigo is four points from safety in the fifteenth position and hosts eight-placed Girona.
