On Tuesday, Real Madrid unveiled one of their biggest signings in recent years after presenting French forward Kylian Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu crowd and Real Madrid fans.
Kylian Mbappé’s romance with Real Madrid goes as far back as three years ago but he was only able to finally sign for the Los Blancos this July after his contract with PSG expired allowing him to pen a 5-year deal with the Los Blancos.
At his unveiling which was attended by a crowd of over 80,000 spectators at the Bernabeu, Mbappe spoke of his long-term dream of playing for the Spanish capital club.
“I spent endless nights dreaming about one day playing for Real Madrid, and today, I am one happy guy. My family are so happy here; I can see my mum crying. It’s an incredible day for me, I’ve dreamt of this day since I was a kid and this day means a lot to me.” said Mbappe.
Mbappe was with the French team at Euro 2024, leading them to the semifinals, where they lost to eventual winners Spain. His involvement at the tournament was one of the reasons his unveiling was delayed.
Real Madrid failed to bring Mbappe to the Bernabeu three years ago after bidding £137M to PSG who rejected the offer. The Paris club later accepted a £259M offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal last year but Mbappe turned down the offer seeing out his contract instead of an extension with PSG.
Mbappe didn’t win the UEFA Champions League with PSG but won everything available in France in 308 appearances scoring 256 goals for the club. He had a clash with the club last season after being left out of PSG’s preseason last season before he was brought back into the squad by coach Luis Enrique.
