Jude Bellingham scored his sixth goal in six appearances for Real Madrid since joining from Borussia Dortmund this summer when he scored a late winner for the Los Blancos against Union Berlin.
The English midfielder has already done five goals in five games in La Liga, one of the best starts to a Real Madrid career by a player. Real Madrid were frustrated by the German club side, although Joselu had several opportunities to score the winner for Real until Bellingham turned the ball in from a deflected shot.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti revealed after the game that they expected the game to go the way it did in the first half and were patient enough to wait for the killer blow to arrive.
“The game has been a game we expected to be like this, complicated with a lot of control against a low block from Union Berlin, who defended well and left us space to try and find gaps between the lines. The idea was to be patient; we were, but not too much. There are games like this, which can be a trap, like Sheriff when we lost at home in the second game of the season of the 14th. We defended the counter, Rüdiger was outstanding, and at the back, we defended well, and there was no danger.” Ancelotti said.
Ancelotti further said that Bellingham has quality, and he also has luck, as he pointed out the similarity of the goal to the one against Getafe in La Liga. The Italian coach admitted that he has an extraordinary talent, which he took advantage of.
The Los Blancos will return to La Liga action at the weekend in the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid’s victory followed Barcelona’s 5-0 win against Belgium side Royal Antwerp on Tuesday. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Sevilla played a 1-1 draw against RC Lens.
