Liverpool has been hit with another injury problem after Joe Gomez got injured while on international duty with the Three Lions.
Gomez played in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad stadium. The central defender got injured in the build-up to England’s clash with the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.
The seriousness of in the injury has not been disclosed, but it is expected that the extent of the injury will be revealed before Thursday.
The 23-year-old’s injury adds to Liverpool’s injury list with Dutch center-back Virgil van Dijk facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Fabinho is also out of action due to a hamstring problem, while right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is a concern after he was taken off during a 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold’s injury led to his withdrawal from the national team and allowed England manager Gareth Southgate to hand a first senior call up to Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse also withdrew through injury.
Should Bellingham make his debut in any of England’s three international matches, which will come up between 12 and 18 November, he will become England’s third-youngest player ever to play for the Three Lions behind Theo Walcott and Wayne Rooney.
Bellingham preferred a move to the German Bundesliga in the summer ahead of a move to Manchester United from Birmingham. He has featured 11 times for Dortmund already.
England plays the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, and Iceland in the November international break. The tie against the Republic of Ireland is a friendly, while games against Belgium and Iceland are UEFA Nations League matches.
Already, the game against Iceland is in doubt after the UK government’s new travel ban on non-UK visitors coming from Denmark.
Iceland will face Denmark in Copenhagen first on November 15 before playing the Three Lions three days later.
Nevertheless, the match could now take place in either Germany or Albania.
