Jamie Carragher sympathizes with Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire; Wants him to improve as they bow out of the Champions League

Manchester United are going through a rough patch this season. The Red Devils recently bowed out of the Champions League round of 16 after losing 1-0 against Atletico Madrid. It has been a tough season for United and some of their players who have struggled to get going.

One of such players is centre back Harry Maguire who is going through a forgettable season. Maguire once again had an underwhelming outing against the Rojiblancos. He was substituted in the 84th minute for Juan Mata and the decision was cheered by the United fans.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher who understood the situation with Maguire highlighted how the Manchester United skipper should up the ante. Carragher believes that Maguire needs to improve a lot to win back the fans at Old Trafford again.

“He is going through the worst moment in his career right now. We all have that moment, I can picture it now when I was playing. It felt like no matter what I did in a game, how well I prepared for it, how well I played in it. The one thing I did wrong and the ball ended up in the back of my net. And I always remember when that was and that period of my career,” said Carragher after United’s exit from the Champions League.

Carragher reveals how the level at Manchester United is very high and Maguire needs to improve or he may see himself move out of Old Trafford. The England international needs to iron out his mistakes and be the responsible leader for whom United broke the bank.

“This is something that Harry Maguire is going through right now and he has to get out of it very quickly otherwise he won’t be at the club because the standards at Manchester United are so high. Of course he wants to [get out of it] but his head will be all over the place, he is getting criticism left right and centre,” Carragher added.

Maguire has been very poor this season and therefore United fans are not happy with him as they feel he is to be blamed for their condition. The fans felt that Maguire could replicate his form from the Euros where his incredible performances guided the Three Lions to the final where they eventually lost to Italy on penalties.

But the former Leicester City man was a shadow of himself wearing the Manchester red and that disappointed the fans majorly.  It will be interesting to see how things turn out for Maguire at Old Trafford. At the moment things do not look good and there is a major possibility for the English defender to leave Old Trafford this summer.
