Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has revealed that the club’s pre-season under new manager Erik ten Hag has been challenging. The Dutchman is known to push his players as he seeks perfection in their game and he has been doing the same since he joined the team.
Manchester United won against Liverpool by 4-0 in Thailand in their opening fixture of the pre-season. However, the team’s manager was not satisfied and revealed he saw a lot of mistakes, which will need improvement. Subsequently, the Red Devils went on to beat Australian club Melbourne Victory by 4-1 on Friday.
Maguire as quoted by Tribal Football, said: “Ït has been tough. The running has been hard but we are really looking forward to the season. Erik and his coaching staff are bringing their ideas, and the first two games you have seen little glimpses of the principles.”
Maguire added that they are gearing up for the first Premier League match of the upcoming season.
The 29-year-old added: “We are working towards being ready for that first Premier League game, that’s what matters. Everything we are doing now is building for that first game.”
Meanwhile, there were also a lot of talks regarding Manchester United’s captaincy for the next season. However, Erik Ten Hag cleared the air and revealed Maguire will lead the team in the forthcoming season.
He said, as quoted by Manchester Evening News: “Harry Maguire is the captain. He is an established captain, he has achieved a lot of success, so I don’t doubt this issue.”
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire had an disappointing previous season for Manchester United. Maguire played 37 matches across all competitions for Red Devils in which he scored two goals and also one own-goal. Thus, the English defender will look to turn the tables and will aim to lead from the front in the upcoming season of EPL.
