Hero ISL 2021-22 finalists Kerala Blasters FC have decided to extend the contract of Bijoy Varghese, which will keep him at the club till 2025. In fact, the defender played only a few matches for the Southerners in the recently concluded season but the team’s think tank was impressed with his skills and has offered him a new deal.
Varghese joined the Youth team of Kovalam FC to kickstart his footballing career. Bijoy was part of the Kerala team which went on to win the International School Championship in 2018 and played a key role as he was awarded the best defender award in the tournament.
Subsequently, he played for SAI (Sports Authority of India) which took part in the young league.
In 2021, the youngster impressed everyone while playing for the Kerala Blasters FC’s reserve team in the Kerala Premier League, which opened his selection doors in the Hero ISL and also the national team.
He made his debut with the club’s senior team during the Durand Cup. The 22-year-old youngster, who hails from Trivandrum, played five matches for Kerala Blasters FC in the 2021-22 season. Bijoy is excited to once again join hands with Kerala Blasters FC till the end of the 2025 season.
‘I am really excited that I am going to be a part of Kerala Blasters for a long time. I am really happy to be working under Coach Ivan and intend to work harder, get better at my game and sharpen my skills. I hope to give all the club’s passionate fans memories by giving my 100 percent in all the games that I play.’ said an excited Bijoy after signing his extension with the club.
