There are many young players who rise through the ranks in every season of the Indian Super League. Jamshedpur FC winger Mohammed Sanan K had one such breakthrough season in the recently concluded edition of the tournament.
The winger scored two goals for the Red Miners in the season and also provided one assist in the 20 matches he played. The 20-year-old came through Reliance Foundation Young Champs before joining Jamshedpur FC for the 2023-24 season.
“At a young age, I used to watch a lot of football videos of players like (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Lionel) Messi, and Neymar, as everyone does. So, at that young age, I was like, ‘I want to be a footballer,’ so yeah, that’s how I got into football,” Sanan told the Jamshedpur FC media team.
Sanan revealed that his father, Arata Iluzmi played an instrumental role in him becoming a professional footballer.
“My father used to be with me in every training session and would come to watch all my games. He always gave me advice on what to do and what to avoid, both on and off the field. Professionally, I would say Arata Izumi has been my most influential football coach.
The youngster scored his maiden goal for Jamshedpur FC against Mohun Bagan Super Giant. But his effort went in vain as the team suffered a 3-2 loss.
“When I scored, I forgot everything. I was blank, and you know, it’s an incredible feeling to score for your team. Hearing the crowd cheer your name was amazing, and after the game, I received a lot of texts from my family, friends, and everyone. It was a great feeling, and I’m still not over it,” Sanan stated.
“The ball came to me, and my first touch wasn’t good, but I took an extra touch and finished it. I didn’t think it would be a goal or anything; I just acted on instinct. I’m thankful to God for that moment,” he added.
Sanan will look to keep improving and come up with even a better showing in the next season.
