The latest report from Italy says Inter Milan could strike a deal with West Ham United for Gianluca Scamacca.
The deal is reportedly worth €25m plus bonuses, as Roma effectively admits defeat in the race.
The center-forward, who only joined th4 London club a year ago from Sassuolo for €36m plus up to €6m in add-ons, wants to return home. Atalanta is expected to benefit from the deal as they retained a 10 percent cut of the future sell-on fee.
Inter had tendered an initial €20m on Monday, which was rejected. But multiple Italian sources note they are confident of reaching an agreement quickly at €25m plus €5m in bonuses.
According to Sky Sport Italia, while negotiations continue between those clubs, Roma have not responded in any way.
Gialorossi had been trying for weeks to get Scamacca on loan with an option to buy, which would become an obligation if they qualified for the Champions League.
As things stand, they are not in a position to outbid Inter for the Italy international, as they aren’t even offering a permanent transfer.
This will be another opportunity for Scamacca to reunite with his former Sassuolo teammate Davide Frattesi at San Siro.
Inter have wanted to strengthen their attack after the exit of Romelu Lukaku, who played on loan from Chelsea last season.
This means Roma will have to look for an alternative as top players seem scarce in that department, and Rome club can only offer Europa League participation to such players.
It is now left to Jose Mourinho to see if he would get a quality addition that could make him surpass last season’s achievement.
As for Inter, they will hope to do better, but it could be said to be a successful season where they still won a title and emerged Champions League runner-up.
