Inter Milan is willing to go all the way to win the UEFA Champions League again after knowing their opponents in the prestigious club competition for the 2024-25 season.
The Serie A champion, who emerged runners-up two seasons ago after a 1-0 loss to English champion Manchester City, will have to compete with the citizens and their title rivals in the new competition format.
The draw was concluded at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Thursday, and the qualifiers already knew their opponents.
Reacting to the draw, Inter President Beppe Marotta said the Scudetto winners want to go all the way in the Champions League but ‘must not mistake arrogance for ambition.’
The Nerazzurri have been paired against RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Crvena Zvezda, and Monaco at home, with Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen, Young Boys, and Sparta Prague away.
According to the new format, the club chief described the new format as fascinating and said it’s a very different kind of adrenaline.
“We don’t know the fixture list yet, but the important thing is to be ready when it begins. We hope for a bit of luck with injuries and suspensions.”
Marotta told Sky Sport Italia that the Inter squad has grown a lot over the last few years, not only in Italy but also in the Champions League.
While noting that the second star in Serie A represented an important achievement for the club, he said Inter has not chosen between the Scudetto and Champions League.
“We try to go all the way in both, and hope circumstances are favorable for us. We have given Simone Inzaghi a competitive squad, but we don’t want to put anxiety onto Inter, just the right level of pressure for an important club like Inter.”
Ahead of the encounter with the top English giants, pointed out that clubs with top international players early might be difficult, but the smaller sides have their specific difficulties, too.
