Athletic Club striker, Inaki Williams, has shown appreciation to the La Liga club for his progress on the international scene, which has seen him team up with the Ghanaian national team for the World Cup.
Inaki Williams had a single cap for the Spanish national team in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016. Despite playing for the U21s, he never made a competitive debut for the senior national team.
The dependable striker got a call-up to the Ghanaian national team in 2022 after switching his allegiance to the West Africans against the backdrop of their world cup qualification.
He was also included in the country’s final 26-man list for the World Cup that kicks off on Sunday in Qatar.
The striker, who scored five goals in 14 La Liga appearances this season, attributed his call-up for the world cup to Athletic Club, who gave him everything.
“It’s an honor; I’m looking forward to the day of my debut; Athletic has given me everything. I will always be grateful for what they have done to give me this opportunity. To the coaching staff, employees, and all my teammates, I can play in a World Cup, thanks to them. What better way to represent Athletic than playing in a World Cup with the Ghana national team.” Inaki said.
Inaki Williams was born in the Basque county to Ghanian Parents and has grown through the ranks at the club from the academy level.
He has also made over 350 appearances for Athletic, including a record of 240 consecutive competitive games under his belt, which is still running.
His debut for Ghana happened in September 2022 in a friendly match against Brazil, and he also featured in another friendly match against Nicaragua.
Ghana is in Group H with Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay for the World Cup.
