Chelsea will take on defending champions and league leaders Manchester City in a monumental clash in the Premier League. Ahead of the big encounter Arsenal legend Ian Wright shared how impressed he was with Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and feels that the Frenchman will be key for the Blues in this important fixture.
Wright was full of praises for Kante as he explained the role of the midfielder in deciding Chelsea’s fate against City. He said, “Chelsea could easily let City come onto them. You’ve got Kante, he can break downplay and he’s so good progressively with his passing forward. He’s so unbelievable at reading and knowing where the danger is. He was so phenomenal at that then people think that’s what his main strength is. This is what (Maurizio) Sarri tried to do with him and Frank (Lampard) tried to with him.”
Wright reasoned how Sarri and Lampard tried changing Kante’s role. But the Arsenal legend wonders why someone should change the role of Kante who is arguably one of the best in his position. He feels that if Kante plays up to his potential the Blues will have a great chance to beat Manchester City.
Kante has grown from strength to strength ever since he joined West London in 2016. The French midfielder has recorded 236 appearances for Chelsea and has won titles starting from UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and even the Premier League.
But his current season has been hindered by injuries. He also tested positive COVID-19 which again derailed his career. Kante has only featured in 14 matches and the Frenchman will hope to contribute more for the Blues as they enter the business end of the season. Even manager Thomas Tuchel understands Kante’s importance and if he regains his form it will be a big boost for the Blues in securing multiple silverware.
Pep Guardiola’s men are 10 points clear at the summit of the Premier League points table. Therefore the match against Chelsea will be very crucial. Thomas Tuchel’s men are on a three-match winning streak in all competitions and will look to continue that winning run against the Cityzens.
