Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has slammed new signing Richarlison’s unnecessary showboating skills in their match against Nottingham Forest. The Brazilian is yet to start a match for his new club and is considered way below in the pecking order in a team that is packed with several star forwards.
Despite Richarlison’s antics, the Lillywhites won the match 2-0 against Forest and it was a very professional showing from Conte and his men. This win takes Spurs to the third position in the Premier League standings where they are tied at 10 points after four matches with clubs like Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion while Arsenal are leading the race with a perfect start to the season.
Coming back to Richarlison, the Brazilian shifted loyalties this summer for a hefty fee as he joined Spurs leaving Everton. However he is yet to start a game for the club till now as he is considered way below the likes the Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane and others. In this match against Forest he came on as a substitute midway in the second half and apart from his showboating he also combined with Harry Kane to double the lead for Spurs.
The showboating happened during the dying moments of the match where he decided to kill time by doing a few keepy uppies which garnered a lot of cheer from the away Spurs fans. But it was brought to an end by Nottingham Forest player Brenan Johnson who brought him down in anger and was awarded a yellow card for his challenge.
These actions from Richarlison infuriated Conte who slammed him after the game as he said, “”I wouldn’t want my players to do what Richarlison did. It wouldn’t be accepted here.”
When asked whether Richarlison would be starting the next match against West Ham United, Conte did not give a clear answer he diverted the question and shared his thoughts on how Tottenham are the only team to play so many matches in a short duration of time. “I was very clear with my players and now we have three days to recover before the game against West Ham. And then after Wednesday night, we are going to play Saturday. I think we are the only team in the top six to play three games in six days,” Conte replied.
Spurs will feature in two London derbies in the next six days as they will take on West Ham United in three days time and then they will host Fulham on Saturday and now it looks like there can be some opportunity popping up for the Brazilian in the upcoming fixtures if Conte decided to shuffle the starting lineup to keep the squad fresh.
