Manchester City attacking midfielder Phil Foden wants to keep improving and try to be an even better player. The club’s manager Pep Guardiola recently called the youngster ‘world-class’ but the left-footed player disagrees with his coach.
After a 1-0 win against Bournemouth, the Spaniard had heaped praise on Foden in February.
“Forget about the goals — of course they are important — but do you know how he played?,” Guardiola told reporters.
“How he controlled and accelerated. He has become already a top-class football player. From a little boy, now he has become already Phil, a world class, top player.
On the other hand, Foden feels he still has a long way to go in his career and still needs to be more consistent.
Speaking to reporters, Phil Foden said, “I wouldn’t say world class yet – I think I’ve got the potential to be but to hear that from the manager is special for me. I still want to keep improving and try to be an even better player. I have to do it consistently in the biggest games and biggest occasions.
“To do it for a number of years – that’s when you get the world-class status. I’m enjoying the season and I’m in good form at the moment, so I want to keep that up. Sometimes it just clicks and happens. Maybe this is my best season, yes. It’s the most consistent run of games that I’ve played. I’ve been playing in a new position as well – more inside and more midfield and I’m enjoying it.”
Foden has netted nine goals and has provided seven assists in 26 matches he has played in the ongoing Premier League season for the Sky Blues. Thus, the 23-year-old has played a key role in the success of his team and he will look to continue the good show.
