Manchester United have always been a big name in English and European football and to see them go in slumber was pretty sad for their supporters and even for the ex players and coaches. However with Erik ten Haag’s arrival the club has once again started to show fight. The Dutchman has signed great players and has also motivated the existing ones to be a better club overall. Hence he is now reaping the rewards as United won their first silverware in six years in the form of the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils defeated Newcastle United 2-0 to achieve this sensational feat.
It was really a very heartwarming moment to see the players celebrating, even legendary manager Alex Ferguson was also seen during the presentation. He has been very much involved with the club even after his retirement. So he has seen the downfall and now finally he can smile about the positives.
Ferguson recently in an interaction with Sky Sports spoke about the club, the players and the coach. Firstly he is highly impressed by Marcus Rashford and his ability to turn any game on its head. The England international has scored 17 goals in 19 matches for United since the FIFA World Cup. While Rashford’s red hot form is genuinely praiseworthy, Feguson is concerned that the club does not over rely on him to find goals every time.
“He is fantastic, his finishing is always good and he always keeps his shots down which is really important for a striker,” Ferguson told Sky Sports. “He’s in a great vein of form. Unfortunately for us, he’s the main source of goals, we could do with an extra one. But he is doing it.”
Ferguson left the club almost a decade ago and ever since the club has struggled to find a coach who can take them back to the time where at least the fans can dream about winning trophies and getting back to being the best in Europe. After a lot of trial and error they have finally found someone capable in Erik ten Hag.
The former Ajax tactician is someone who keeps the team together, very shrewd with his game plan and understands his opponents very well. He had a very thoughtful transfer window where he got a couple of players who he admired a lot during his time in Eredivisie and also snapped up a few players who are known for their winning and leadership mentality. Each one of them was a calculated risk but looking back all of them have managed to strike gold at Old Trafford.
Ferguson also feels that the Dutchman has a grip of the club and lauds him for beginning his tenure at United on a very positive note.
“United is based on success and he’s gone the right way about it,” Ferguson opined on Ten Hag. “His signings have been really good – I think that was important – and he’s got a grip of the club which is really big for him. You come to United and you try to get off to a good start right away. He’s done really well, he really has.”
The Red Devils have managed to pull off a couple of big results against FC Barcelona and Newcastle United. They will look to keep up the momentum in the Premier League and also in Europe.
