Portugal’s head coach Roberto Martinez has showered praise on Cristiano Ronaldo after their comprehensive 6-0 win against Luxembourg during their Euro 2024 Group J qualification match. Ronaldo, 38, is still delivering the goods for the national team after the World Cup.
The talisman scored a brace for Portugal in their convincing win against Luxembourg. Portugal’s skipper scored in the ninth and 31st minutes of the game. Joao Felix, Bernardo Silva, Otavio, and Rafael Leao also found themselves on the scoring sheet.
Earlier, the Al-Nassr forward had also scored a brace against Liechtenstein in the Euro qualifiers.
“He is very important, he has a unique experience at an international level. For us, he is important because he is a reference in the locker room and he is prepared to lead and be the captain of this selection”
Ronaldo has now scored a total of 122 goals while playing for Portugal.
Roberto Martinez was delighted after his team demolished Luxembourg and dominated from the get-go.
The Spanish tactician said (via Record): “I’m very satisfied. It’s important to remember that the attitude of the players is the most important part. Today it was important to have intensity from the beginning, to play as a team.”
He added: “We did that, scoring six goals, having a penalty missed. goal to zero. Luxembourg always tries to create danger at home. We had a great ability to maintain concentration. I’m very happy, but it’s just the beginning. We have to work hard to improve.”
Portugal ticked the right boxes against Luxembourg and they will look to continue the good show in the upcoming matches. Portugal will next face Bosnia and Herzegovina in their third match of the Euro qualifiers on 17th June.
