Bayern Munich striker Sadio lauded Lionel Messi and feels Argentina can go on to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Messi is regarded as one of the best players to have ever embraced the game and he is still going strong.
Messi has been in great form in recent times while playing for his club PSG Saint Germain. The Argentine great has so far scored 11 goals in 16 matches for the Parisians across all competitions.
Messi would be looking to continue the same form in Qatar. The 35-year-old also recently confirmed that the forthcoming marquee event will be his last World Cup.
Meanwhile, Argentina had qualified for the final of the FIFA World Cup 2014 but they could not cross the final hurdle against Germany as they lost by 1-0. They then lost the quarterfinal of the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Croatia.
Sadio Mane said (via Vermouth Deportivo), “He is an incredible player.”
Naming the favorites for the World Cup, Mane said: “Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, England, I think there are few teams that can win the World Cup.”
The Senegalese striker then added: “Argentina is one of them.”
Meanwhile, Messi had recently disapproved of the tag of being the favorite for the World Cup.
He said as quoted by the Guardian, “I don’t know whether we are big favorites, but I believe Argentina is a candidate because of its history, which means even more now because of the way we got here. But in a World Cup anything can happen, all the matches are very difficult. It isn’t always the favorites who win it.”
Meanwhile, Messi and co. will begin their FIFA World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia on November 22. Subsequently, they will take on Mexico and Poland in Group C of the tournament.
