German forward Kai Havertz scored Chelsea’s winning goal on Wednesday evening as they beat Watford 2-1 at the Vicarage road. The game which started slowly saw a disruption in the 11th minute after a health issue in the stands.
The players went into the dressing room until the issue was sorted by the medical personnel who then drove the affected individual to the nearest hospital. Both set of players had agreed to not continue with the game until the fan was confirmed stable after the incident.
Minutes later both players emerged from the tunnel to continue with the game and it was Chelsea who scored first through Mason Mount just before the half-hour mark. Nigerian striker Emmanuel Dennis scored the equaliser just before the half time break. Havertz then scored the winner in the 71st minute as the Blues maintained a one point lead over Manchester City who beat Aston Villa at the Villa Park.
Ruben Dias and Bernado Silva’s first half goals ensured that Ollie Watkins goal immediately after the restart was only a consolation for Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa team. The win saw Pep Guardiola’s side one point away from Chelsea at the top of the table while they are a point ahead of Liverpool who also won big in the Merseyside derby.
Mohamed Salah scored a brace after Jordan Henderson’s opener in the first half while Diogo Jota scored the final goal of the night in the 4-1 triumph at the Goodison Park.
Meanwhile, Southampton and Leicester City played a 2-2 draw at the Saint Mary’s stadium, Wolves and Burnley played a 0-0 draw at the Molineux while West Ham and Brighton played a 1-1 draw.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Manchester United will face Arsenal although newly appointed Ralf Rangnick will not be able to sit in the dugout due to visa issues.
