Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane made use of his milestone appearance for England in his 100 cap by scoring a brace in Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Finland at Wembley Stadium. While England welcomed Finland in their second UEFA Nations League B match, they had to avoid a fourth consecutive winless game in front of the capital crowd.
A 2-0 win against Ireland away in Dublin last week set the tone for Lee Carsley’s men, and without any injury issues, the coast was set for a victory for the Three Lions. England is undefeated against Finland, winning ten of their twelve meetings.
Finland started with a low block and was comfortable allowing England to take possession, hoping to frustrate the home side. However, on a memorable night for Kane, he was keen to find the back of the net, especially after scoring eight goals in his last seven home internationals.
His first attempt only stung the palms of Lukas Hradecky, but it was England’s shot on target in the half. After the restart, Bukayo Saka became a menace on the right flank, and he forced a save out of Hradecky after his deflected cross was headed home by a marginally offside Kane.
In the end, Kane eventually scored the first goal of the night three minutes before the hour mark. While hitting a second in the 76th minute of a night, he tagged it as a big night.
“It was a big night for me, really proud. I want to score goals and help the Team. Whenever you are doubted, it makes you more hungry to prove people wrong. I always back myself to score goals, and I am excited for the future.” Kane said.
He also stated that the manager came in with great energy and talked a lot about freedom and attacking and hurting the teams with room for improvement, but it was certainly a great start for him.
