A record-making lone strike from Harry Kane was enough to see Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday evening to help Arsenal maintain their five-point gap at the top despite Saturday’s loss to Everton.
Despite going down ten men, Spurs held on to record an important victory over the Citizens, who are yet to win a game at the New White Hart Lane since returning there in 2018 after renovation works forced them to Wembley stadium temporarily.
In fact, Pep Guardiola’s men are also yet to score on that ground as well and a red card to Spurs’ Argentina defender Christian Romero in the 87th minute of the game didn’t change that.
The game-winner came in the first half when Tottenham scored off an assist from Pierre Emile Hojbjerg in the fifth minute. The goal sent Kane past Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham Hotspur’s record goalscorer with 267 goals.
“It’s hard to put into words, and I’m so glad it came in a win. We worked so hard to keep a clean sheet. It was so special to do it in front of the fans. It is a great feeling. When I started playing regularly, it wasn’t even in my imagination to score 200 Premier League goals, and I have a few more years left, so hopefully, there are more to come.” Kane said.
The win puts Tottenham just a point behind Newcastle in fourth place, while Arsenal still maintained their five points gap ahead of Manchester City despite their one-nil loss to Everton on Saturday.
The game was Sean Dyche’s return to a managerial position in the Premier League, and he was able to secure a win over Arsenal thanks to a 60th-minute header from James Tarkowski.
In Sunday’s first game, Nottingham Forest got a 1-0 win over Leeds United thanks to Brennan Johnson’s first-half strike.
