Ahead of his first game in charge of Barcelona, Hansi Flick has revealed that there will be a change in the club’s playing style for the 2024/2025 season. Flick became the club’s new manager during the summer after Barcelona sacked Xavi Hernandez in a controversial manner at the end of last season.

Although Xavi won two trophies in his first season with the Copa del Rey and La Liga double, a trophyless season in a second season left Barcelona with no choice but to relieve him of the duties and bring in the former Bayern Munich and Germany manager.

While he took over training last week at the club, he still had to handle his first fixture as Barcelona’s head coach. However, he will have the opportunity next week when Barcelona faces Manchester City on Wednesday 31st of July in America. 

Ahead of that fixture, Hansi Flick has revealed that Barcelona’s tradition 

of passing the ball around may have to change as he also wants them to go straight to the goal with more focus on scoring.

“I don’t think my style has any major changes. I’m looking for the same thing: to press high up and play in the opponent’s midfield. But, at the end of the day, you have to win. Everything is about winning games, and at Barca, you have to play well. All I can say is that we want to be an active team.” Xavi said.

Flick also admitted to wanting his teams to press the opponent at the right moment to make the opponents play the way he wanted them. The 59-year-old manager has coached Bayern Munich and the German national team in the last decade, but the majority of his managerial success has come from Bayern Munich, where he won everything available to the club.
