After sacking former manager Xavi last week in a surprising turn of events, Barcelona have gone for former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick as their new head coach.
Hansi Flick, who won 83% of his games as Bayern Munich boss, also led the German giants to a Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League treble in 2020.
Hansi Flick signed a two-year contract with Barcelona, which was revealed and officially announced on Wednesday by the club’s social media. The manager stated that it was an honor for him to join the club after winning trophies and Bayern Munich.
“It’s a big honor, a dream for me to sign my contract here. We won some titles with Bayern Munich, and my hunger for titles is really high. I would like to stay on this path with Barcelona, and I think we can achieve a lot together. This is an important thing. I’m proud to be at Barça; it’s a wonderful and incredible club, really. We share the same vision, possession, and quality football.” Hansi Flick said.
He went on to say that Barça has one of the best academies in the world with the La Masia, and one of his missions will be to improve all the players.
The La Liga giants finished second behind Real Madrid after failing to successfully defend the title. Former manager Xavi had announced earlier in 2024 that he will leave Barcelona at the end of the season but he was persuaded by the club hierarchy to stay and continue until the end of his contract.
However, Barcelona surprisingly and controversially rescinded their decision to keep Xavi as their head coach and have ended up with Hansi Flick as his replacement, eight months after getting sacked as Bayern Munich manager.
Meanwhile, Xavi, after his departure from a position where he won the La Liga and Super Cup in the first season, claims Barcelona’s new manager will suffer.
