Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has defended Christopher Nkunku’s decision to join the Blues this summer in a recent interview with King Casino Bonus. This came after former Leipzig and Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick criticised Nkunku for joining Chelsea as it is too early for him and the current state of the Blues is not great. Johnson disagrees with Rangnick’s opinion and supports the player’s decision to move to Stamford Bridge.
According to Johnson, “Chelsea are still Chelsea. A fantastic football club with fantastic players, there is just a lot of change going on at the moment. There is no dust that needs to settle. Nkunku is certainly not going to an in-form Chelsea at the slightest, but once a manager and the owners settle in at the club, Chelsea will be alright. They are not a million miles away at all.”
Johnson believes that one season of underwhelming performances does not diminish Chelsea’s might. The club needs to make better decisions going forward, but the attraction of playing for a top club in London is still very much alive. He also thinks that Nkunku does not regret his decision to join Chelsea early.
“It’s a great opportunity for him. You don’t know who’s going to come in and take the reins, so he’s put himself in the picture for them. I don’t think he’s regretting that at all. He’s a great player and it’s a fantastic opportunity for him. Chelsea’s still a top club and a big opportunity,” Johnson added.
In conclusion, Johnson’s opinion is that the future is bright for Chelsea, and Nkunku’s decision to join them early is a smart move for the player’s career. The Blues may be struggling at the moment, but they have a bright future ahead of them.
