Giovanni Di Lorenzo has been a metronome for Italy in their recent Euros triumph. He was one of Roberto Mancini’s trusted warriors who started all but the first game for the Azzurri at the continental tournament.
The Napoli fullback is one of their players who saw their stock rise after an extremely successful Euros campaign. Therefore as a result, reports have emerged linked the right back to Manchester United. However, the 27-year-old agent has rubbished all the claims and has said that the reports linking his client with United have very little substance.
Di Lorenzo’s agent, Mario Giuffredi spoke about his client’s future and links with Manchester United. He told Radio Marte, “[President Aurelio] De Laurentiis spoke at the press conference explaining Napoli’s losses, and that all his players are transferable and that, if appropriate offers arrive, he will evaluate them himself.
“If offers arrive, we are obliged to take them into consideration, also in the interest of Napoli, because it is the president himself who has put everyone on the market.
“So, we feel we are on the market. If an appropriate offer arrives it’ll be discussed and considered.
While he stated that Napoli are open to selling players if the right offer arrives, he rubbishes all the talks regarding Manchester United’s interest in the 27-year-old.
“But now it is newspaper talk. I read about Manchester United but now it is newspaper talk. If there were real things, we would be the ones to communicate it to Napoli. At the moment no request has arrived.”
Manchester United are said to be in the market in search of a right back this summer. The Red Devils already have Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that position but they need some depth going into the new season. United have earlier been linked with Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier and Norwich city’s Max Aarons.
They may also explore the option of Di Lorenzo, especially knowing Napoli’s financial condition. Therefore a move out of Naples for the 27-year-old is quite possible this summer.
But United’s interest is more in securing England international Kieran Trippier who has recently won the La Liga with Atletico Madrid and then guided the Three Lions to the finals of the European Championships. But the Rojiblancos are in no hurry to sell the English right back and hence it would need a hefty fee to lure him out of the Spanish capital. Also, Max Aarons is another player who has been a long term target for the English giants and can be an ideal player to act as an understudy to Wan Bissaka at Old Trafford.
