Former Manchester United defend Gary Neville have urged the Red Devils to bid for English skipper Harry Kane. The Spurs forward is all set to leave the club as Manchester City are preparing a big-money deal to lure him to Etihad Stadium. Neville wants United to put in a bid and increase the contest.
Earlier, he thought that the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane would be enough for United to win the Premier League. However, with Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan and Manchester City roping in Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, Neville’s opinion has changed.
The former United legend feels that the inclusion of the Tottenham man will be a huge boost for the club. He highlights how even in the past the Red Devils would always go for the best English player. He wants them to go that extra stretch for Kane in this transfer window.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to end the four-year barren spell this season. He is aiming for the Premier League and feels that he has the team to clinch the trophy this time. However, he also warned everyone to stay open for surprises.
“I still think they’ll be short,” Gary Neville stated on Sky Sports, ahead of Leicester and West Ham’s Premier League encounter on Monday.
“Chelsea have strengthened with Lukaku, Man City [have gone] in for Grealish and if they get Kane, there’s a massive problem for Man Utd.
“I don’t know why Man Utd aren’t going that extra step this transfer window. They’ve always gone after the best English player in the Premier League historically. Why aren’t they going in for Harry Kane?
“If Harry Kane entered Man Utd you get to 94, 95 points, [and] they still have to replace Cavani and Martial. Why not get the man now? I don’t know if they can win the league with Sancho and Varane,” he concluded.
Neville also backend Soilskjaer and the work that he has done at Old Trafford for the last few seasons. The Red Devils now have a clear identity in place and also have the players in place to win big things. However, he also stated that failure to win trophies in the next couple of seasons may lead to the Norwegian’s dismissal.
