It was indeed a big day in the Premier League as Manchester United hosted the high-flying Arsenal at Old Trafford. While many people thought the Gunners were firm favourites due to their perfect start to the season. But contrary to popular belief, the hosts took charge of the game and ended Arsenal’s win streak with a 3-1 win over the Gunners.
It was a sensational performance from Erik ten Hag’s men as they have now made a strong comeback following the setback against Brentford early on in the season. After watching the match Gary Lineker has heaped praise on two United players- Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen. Both the players had a very superlative performance on the night as Rashford scored a brilliant brace and Eriksen bossed the midfield.
Eriksen won the ‘Man of the Match’ for the way he orchestrated the United midfield and stringed through the passes for the goals. He has been a brilliant signing for the Red Devils and has already found his form and rhythm in the United red.
The Danish midfielder went through a lot in the last year at the Euros and after facing such a life threatening incident, Eriksen never imagined playing football again. But now he has moved past the incident and has resumed his career as a footballer and is now dropping sensational performances in the Premier League for one of England’s top clubs.
So Lineker took to Twitter praising both the players as he tweeted, “What an excellent game Christian Eriksen has had, encapsulated by his run and assist for MarcusRashford’s 2nd goal. Incredible to see him performing so well at this level after what happened last year. Such a lovely story.”
This has been a redemption year for Rashford who is only a goal away this season from his last season’s tally and hopes to build on it as the season progresses. After the win he shared how it was a big challenge for them and his teammates can be proud of the result that they have achieved.
“It is always a big game against Arsenal, especially as they have had such a good start to the season. It was a big test for us today. We showed up and stood up to the challenge. We can be proud of ourselves. It is good to get into a rhythm,” Rashford stated.
