Gabriel Jesus was on the hat-trick on Wednesday evening at Emirates Stadium as Arsenal secured a semifinal slot in the Carabao Cup after beating Premier League and London rivals Crystal Palace in a five-goal thriller.
Arsenal welcomed some familiar foes in the Eagles ranks for the game and they quickly fell behind in front of their own fans as Jean-Phillipe Mateta scored in just the fourth minute after shrugging off Jakub Kiwior to slot past Raya.
The Gunners continued to pressurize in the first-half especially through Raheem Sterling and Leandro Trossard but Crystal Palace held firm going into the break ahead.
However, ten minutes after the break, Gabriel Jesus scored the first goal on the night, poking home above Dean Henderson after a pass from Martin Odegaard. A few minutes later, the Brazilian smashed home from a similar position to put Arsenal ahead.
Arsenal were already in full control in front of the home crowd and thr Brazilian who is yet to get off the Mark in the Premier League this season still had enough time to add a third goal.
Former Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah came in and made the final five minutes and additional time tense for the home fans as he made the scoreline 3-2. However, despite a late move up front by Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson for a corner, Arsenal had done enough to secure the win that takes them into the last four and closer to silverware.
The result shows Arsenal returned to winning ways after a 0-0 draw against Everton in the Premier League last weekend.
The two teams will clash again in three days time as Crystal Palace will welcome the Gunners to Selhurst Park for a Premier League fixture on Saturday. Mikel Arteta’s side are in third position on the Premier League table 4 points behind Chelsea who are in second place and six points off the league leaders, Arne Slot-led Liverpool.
