On Boxing Day the team traveled to meet Luton on their ground Kenilworth Road and what a festive encounter it was. After a rollercoaster of a game, Fulham dropped the points by a draw but can be happy with their effort as it could’ve gone either way in the end. The 3-3 draw left no one in ill-spirits and Fulham kept their pace to stay up in the promotion playoffs battle.
It was clear from the early on that neither team was willing to go into the defensive. Before 10 minutes had been played, the score was 1-1 after Kazenga LuaLua took the home team ahead on fifth and then Bobby Reid equalized on the ninth minute.
James Collins then led his team into the break with 2-1 lead by scoring on the 28 minute. Luton was prolific in their chances and scored with both of their shots on goal – Marek Rodak didn’t get his hands on the ball once during the first 45 minutes. The visitors created more chances, but squandered them due to good defending and effort by Luton keeper Simon Sluga.
Second half saw the game calm down somewhat, but it was Fulham pushing on to get the equalizing goal. Finally on the 77th minute league’s leading scorer Alexandar Mitrovic hit the net with his 18th goal this season in the Championship. However, visitors didn’t have much time to celebrate their equalizer as Luton struck again only seven minutes later.
Harry Cornick sent the home fans into raptures and it looked like Luton just might climb out the relegation zone with a win over much more acclaimed Fulham team. But, it was not meant to be. It took all of four minutes of added time for Fulham to claw back into the game and secure a point from their visit. Fulham’s man of the match, Bobby Reid found the net the second time in the game on the eleventh hour and saved his team from the embarrassment.
Fulham is currently fifth in the Championship, steadily in contest for the promotion playoffs. Their journey continues with a visit by Stoke on the 29th of December.
