Paris Saint Germain bowed out of the Champions League following their 3-1 loss in the second leg against Real Madrid. The French giants lost the tie 3-2 on the aggregate score as it was a great comeback from Los Blancos talisman Karim Benzema to win the clash with a second-half hat trick.
After the defeat and poor showing at the Santiago Bernabeu, French pundit Daniel Riolo criticized Brazilian forward Neymar for his lacklustre performance on the night. Riolo made big statemates as he said that Neymar is not focused on football and does not have a future at PSG.
“Sport at the highest level is about humility and mental strength. PSG prepare by going to Fashion Week & on TikTok,’ Riolo said on RMC Sport.
“Neymar is a clown. Neymar needs to be fired. He is no longer a footballer. He should go to fashion week instead. In July there are the world poker championships, I will take him with me, that’s what he is good for.”
The Parisians came to Madrid with a 1-0 lead from the first leg courtesy of a solitary goal scored by Kylian Mbappe. Then they started the second leg really well as Mbappe scored again and handed the lead to Paris Saint Germain. Mauricio Pochettino’s men carried the lead to the halftime break as Real Madrid needed to score three to win the tie.
That’s exactly what they did in the second half as Carlo Ancelotti made some tweaks and Karim Benzema made sure that he made a proper statement by scoring a brilliant hattrick.
The exit from the Champions League that too so early in the season means that it has been yet another failure of a season. The French giants assembled this team including Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to dominate Europe but that has not been the case for them under Pochettino’s reign. So despite leading the Ligue 1 table by a long margin, it will be considered as an underwhelming season for the Parisians.
On top of that, it has been a rather underwhelming season for Neymar as he has only netted four goals and as many assists in 18 appearances across all competitions so far this season. Therefore the critics were not at all happy with his efforts on the big night against Real Madrid.
