Chelsea legend Frank Lampard and Arsenal’s Dennis Bergkamp are the latest players who have been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. They join an elite list which already consists of Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Eric Cantona and Roy Keane.
Lampard won the Premier League title a total of three times and represented teams like Chelsea, West Ham United and Manchester City. He scored a total of 177 goals in 609 games and is also the highest goalscorer in Chelsea’s history. He has 102 assists to his name as well.
Bergkamp also won three Premier League titles and he scored a total of 87 goals in 315 league appearances. He has 97 assists to his name as well, and his involvement in 181 goals for Arsenal is next only to Thierry Henry’s 249 goal involvements.
“As a young lad I remember just wanting to make it into the West Ham team, and looking up to players like Roy Keane, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry, so to be mentioned in the same bracket as them is a real honour,” said Lampard.
Lampard began his career with West Ham and then made the switch to Chelsea in 2001. He won back to back Premier League titles with the Blues in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, and then went on to win another title in 2009-10. He joined Manchester City for a single edition in 2014-15 and then drew curtains on his career playing for New York City FC.
As far as things for Bergkamp went, he joined Arsenal from Inter Milan in 1995. His arrival raised the stature of the Premier League and attracted more overseas players in the time ahead.
“I’m extremely proud if people say that I was one of the first foreign players who added something to the English game,” said Bergkamp.
“The Premier League most definitely made me a better player. From the moment I arrived in England I’ve embraced the English mentality and passion for football, it suited me and my style of play.
“Playing every game against good and tough opponents meant I improved all the time. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
