Tottenham Hotspur have shortlisted Manchester City’s star forward Gabriel Jesus as a potential support player to Harry Kane especially due to his ability to play in multiple positions in attack. Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson recently shared how Jesus can be an ideal player to join the North London club.
The Brazilian forward is expected to leave Manchester City after the arrival of Erling Haaland. His current deal is set to expire next year and Jesus is not looking to run it down, rather he would like to leave the Etihad stadium this summer. Therefore clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal are highly interested in the Brazilian forward.
As per the Telegraph, Mikel Arteta is a fan of the forward and wants him to join Arsenal as they will look to fight their direct rivals Spurs in the race to secure the services of the Brazil International.
Robinson feels that Jesus will be a perfect fit for the Lillywhites especially as they need a player who can support Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. Jesus has played as a centre forward and also out wide with aplomb so that makes him a very special proposition for Antonio Conte’s men.
Robinson feels that the arrival of Jesus will give Spurs the depth required to strive forward. He said, “Jesus would make a lot of sense for Spurs. He can play wide and central. If Harry Kane is unavailable the load is going to have to be shared. He can’t play every single game. A player of Jesus’ ilk would be perfect.”
Robinson highlights how Gabriel Jesus, Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski will give Spurs a massive depth in attacking positions. “Would Jesus be happy to come in and rotate with Kane, Son [Heung-min] and [Dejan] Kulusevski? He could give Spurs similar strength in depth to Liverpool,” Robinson added.
Robinson also highlighted how it wont matter much if Arsenal are interested or not as Spurs will offer him Champions League football which Jesus will desire since coming from a champion team like Manchester City. So he feels arch rivals Arsenal are no competition for the Lillywhites. He also points out how Spurs have the better coach in Antonio Conte in comparison to Mikel Arteta.
“It would be a massive signing for Spurs. It would be a statement. I would like to see him in a Spurs shirt. If Arsenal and Spurs are competing for the same player right now there is only one winner. When you consider facilities, manager and Champions League they are poles apart,” Robinson highlighted.
