Former Liverpool legend reveals that Jose Mourinho’s departure from Spurs was inevitable

Tottenham Hotspur surprisingly announced the sacking of their manager Jose Mourinho. While the sacking was on its way people are failing to figure out what are the possible reasons to remove him in the middle of an ongoing season.

The Portuguese manager who took charge of Spurs guided them to a sixth-placed finish in the English Premier League in his first year in charge. He had to better that result in his second season and currently, the Lillywhites are five points below the top four in the Premier League and are also knocked out of the Europa League. Spurs have struggled under him off late and they have dropped the most points from winning positions in the Premier League.

While Mourinho guided them to the Carabao Cup finals where they will face Manchester City, their shock exit from Europa League against Dinamo Zagreb gave an indication that the sacking might be on its way.

While there are several issues rumoured which led to his sacking former Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit feels that it was dressing room unrest that led to his axing. “I’m surprised, the timing is most unusual with a cup final on the horizon,” said the Sky Sports pundit, Souness.

“Something has gone on to bring this all to a head, I don’t think Jose would have been terribly happy with the way league form was going.

“To second guess what’s happened, Jose is an experienced manager and he has become so frustrated with the players. When you’ve tried everything, you end up having harsh words with them and falling out with them. News of unrest in the dressing room then gets back to the decision makers at the club and then there is only one outcome, and that is for the manager to go,” the former Scottish midfielder added.

Jose Mourinho seemed elated when he took over the Spurs side from Mauricio Pochettino. However, now it looks like the squad was not as good as he thought. Despite all this, Souness still feels that Mourinho is a serial trophy winner and he will attract big clubs.

“He’s a big name, a big manager,” he said. “He will be welcomed by other big clubs. He’s got a track record that is right up there with the very best, he’s got a way of working which isn’t so attractive to a lot of people, but he gets the job done.

“Things haven’t worked at Spurs this time around, he’s left in the week of a cup final, but he did fulfil that ambition by getting them there. I think he will still be attractive to clubs, as long as he still has the appetite,” Souness concluded.
