Arsenal’s performance on and off the field have been contrasting this season as their results on the field and well know, they have struggled to snap up their targets from the summer to the January window. The Gunners chased Shakhtar Donetsk young winger Mykhailo Mudryk for months but they tried playing hard ball and rivals Chelsea hijacked their deal and bagged the Ukrainian who in his initial exchanges looked like a great prospect. However the Gunners have compensated that loss with the signing of former Brighton midfielder Leando Trossard and the deal has impressed former Arsenal man Cesc Fabregas as he made his debut for the club against Manchester United and showed a couple of glimpses of his ability with the ball.
Trossard came in for Gabriel Martinelli in the 82nd minute and won three of his duels and also was successful in his couple of dribble attempts. He was involved in the build for the North London outfit and that is exactly what Mikel Arteta needed. He was also involved in the winner scored by Eddie Nketiah and hence Fabregas feels that the Belgium international is a great fit for the Gunners given that he has great Premier League experience and knows what it takes to play at the highest level.
Arsenal defeated Manchester United 3-2 in a closely contested clash and are now in the driver’s seat to win the Premier League. It was Eddie Nketiah who scored the winner and had a brilliant night scoring a brace. Bukayo Saka scored the other goal for the London outfit whereas Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford scored a goal each for the Red Devils.
Speaking on Sky Sports and analyzing the game, Fabregas shared how Trossard impressed him since coming on and played a part in the build up which led to the Nketiah winner. Hence Fabregas said, “I think Trossard is a really good player, better than at the moment what people think he is. He showed it at Brighton and he showed it today for a couple of minutes. He’s different to what they’ve got. He plays between the lines, he can score goals, play in different positions up front.”
The 28-year-old had a fall out with Brighton’s current coach Roberto De Zerbi and hence it was easy for him to move out when Arsenal showed interest. Trossard had already mustered seven goals along with three assists in 16 league appearances this season.
The Gunners signed him for £27 million, including add-ons, after they missed out on Mykhailo Mudryk and many people feel that for their immediate requirement, the 28-year-old is surely a better player given the experience and the creativity that he brings for a lot lesser price.
Arsenal currently have a five point lead over Manchester City with a game in hand, so there are chances of taking that even further. Mikel Arteta’s men will next feature in the FA Cup against the Citizens in the 4th round clash before travelling to Goodison Park to face Everton on 4th February to keep their winning streak alive.
