Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has revealed that there will be no rest for youngster Lamine Yamal when his side takes on Getafe during Wednesday’s La Liga match day seven tie.
The 17-year-old European Champion has started all of Barca’s matches thus far in this campaign, playing at least eighty minutes in all of them.
Yamal has been in tremendous form this season, contributing four goals and five assists in his seven appearances, including an eye-catching pass to set up Raphinha during Sunday’s 5-1 win at Villarreal.
This is after Yamal has had a busy 2023/24 season – playing fifty times for Barça and sixteen times for the Spanish national team, helping them to win the Euros in Germany, where he started all matches but their last group game.
Speaking ahead of Barça’s clash with Getafe at home on Wednesday, Flick assured me there would be nothing like a rest for the 17-year-old.
“We’ll see. We have all the details on the players, and right now, he doesn’t have to rest. He is doing just fine. We’ll look at it, but I don’t think he needs to rest tomorrow. It’s also important to start well at home with a great starting line-up. We have to keep performing like this and show it to our fans.”
Yamal is the newest player to graduate into Barcelona’s first team from La Masia, but injuries have hampered the growth of similar young talents who came from the academy.
Pedri has been afflicted by several issues since playing seventy-three games for club and country during the 2020-21 season. His other colleague, Gavi, sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last November after featuring fifty-seven times or more in successive seasons between 2021 and 2023.
Barcelona have won all six of their La Liga matches to begin the season but lost 2-1 at Monaco in their Champions League league phase opener last week.
