Arsenal has officially signed and unveiled Portuguese youngster Fabio Vieira whom they signed from Portuguese side Fc Porto on a long-term contract.
The Gunners have been linked with the midfielder who finished as the top assist maker in the Portuguese league last season. He is Arsenal’s third acquisition this summer after bringing in Brazilian Marquinhos and American goalkeeper Matt Turner.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta spoke of his excitement at the addition of the youngster to his side ahead of the new season, explaining his potential contribution to the team.
“I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.” Arteta said on Tuesday.
Vieira arrives at the Emirates Stadium on a deal worth 35million euros after Porto revealed a statement on June 17 of his imminent departure. Add-ons included in the deal could make it rise to 40 million euros.
Arsenal are not done in the transfer market as they are also linked with Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus and Leeds United midfielder Raphina.
The Gunners were also reported to be interested in Youri Tieleman, but they stepped down their interest in order to focus on Jesus’s signature.
Manchester City are ready to let go of some of their strikers after signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Raheem Sterling is subject to leaving Etihad with Chelsea interested. Pep Guardiola’s side finished as League winners last season.
Arsenal lost two of their forwards this transfer summer, with Alexandre Lacazette leaving to return to Olympique Lyon while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang moved to Barcelona in January.
The Gunners, irrespective, managed to make UEFA Europa League with a fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
They have also rewarded young striker Eddie Nketiah with a contract extension.
