A few days before playing the FA Cup final against Chelsea and 18 days before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League final, Liverpool has lost one of its key players.
Fabinho withdrew injured from the English Premier League match against Aston Villa before up half an hour.
The injury comes at a terrible time as Liverpool still have a chance of winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp spoke after the match against Aston Villa and said, “I don’t know [how bad it is]. He felt the muscle, not too much,” Klopp said.
“He is quite positive but I’m not sure what I can make of that, to be honest. We will see.
“He has a good feeling and that gives me a better feeling than I had and I took him off. What that means, I don’t know yet.
“Apart from that, we should be fine.”
For his part, Brazil’s physical trainer, Fabio Mahseredjian, had access to some information about the player’s situation and said: “We don’t have all the information yet, but we are optimistic that he will reach the Champions League final.”
Fabinho was not the only player from Klopp’s team who retired in pain. Midfielder Naby Keita reached for his groin area twice during the game and had to be treated.
Although he was able to finish the match, it will be necessary to see if these discomforts are the origin of a muscular injury or if they remain a simple temporary setback.
Klopp will have to figure out how to tackle the biggest games of the season without one of his key pieces.
