Manchester City defeated Chelsea for the second time in as many days to move to the next round of the FA Cup, where they await the winner of the Arsenal vs. Oxford tie.
Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the Premier League last week courtesy of a Riyadh Mahrez goal, and both teams faced each other on Sunday in the third round of the FA Cup.
Recent results had put Chelsea manager Graham Potter under intense pressure, and Sunday’s fixture was the most win to earn back the confidence of the Chelsea administrators.
However, Chelsea could not match the quality of Pep Guardiola’s suicide as the Premier League champions dominated from the first half scoring three goals in the process.
Again it was Riyad Mahrez who was the big thorn in the flesh of the Blues, scoring after just 23 minutes. Julian Alvarez made it 2-0 at the 30 minutes mark, while Phil Foden made it 3-0 eight minutes later.
Riyad Mahrez completed his brace five minutes before the end of the game from the penalty spot. Meanwhile, the Cityzens will face Arsenal or Oxford United in the fourth round.
Arsenal and Oxford Utd will play on Monday in a third-round fixture of the FA Cup. Elsewhere, Stevenage’s comeback win against Aston Villa was rewarded with a tie against Stoke City, while Manchester United will face.
