AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli bas said it’s a ‘different story’ for his team as they gear up for the Europa League quarterfinals clash against AS Roma.
The Rossoneri will welcome Daniele De Rossi’s men at the Giallorossi at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Thursday evening at 20.00 UK time before playing out the return leg at the Stadio Olimpico on April 18th.
This is their first cup meeting in almost two decades, and the Milan boss is leaving no stone untouched.
Both managers have their aims ahead of the clash. Apart from qualifications for the semifinals, Pioli is fighting to prove himself yet again at Milan he led to the Scudetto last season whilst De Rossi wants to earn himself a new long-term contract after a shining start in Serie A.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Pioli noted that it’s a different story because it’s a different competition.
Noting that they expect a tough game, the former Lazio boss said Roma are a very good team that produce excellent football.
“We come to this challenge well, and we’ll put our qualities on the pitch,” he added.
While pointing out that Roma found good form with the arrival of De Rossi, he said he didn’t review the direct clashes in the league but focused on the new concepts and new positions that De Rossi transmitted to the team.
The manager also noted that his squad is getting their groove back, making it a good moment to play the Gialorossi.
“The team are well and face the decisive moment of the season in the right way. It will be a 180-minute challenge, but tomorrow evening, we must try to bring home something positive.”
Speaking on the high level in the Europa League knockout stages this term, Pioli pointed out that in the end, teams of the highest level will surely progress.
Lauding De Rossi for doing a great job since taking over, Pioli expects the Roma legend to prepare the match in the best possible way.
