Football is a simple game, the team which scores more goals wins the match. However, the toughest part of football is simply putting the ball in the back of the net. Attackers play a huge role for their respective teams and are often seen as the most important players for their sides. Here is a list of 3 attackers who have impressed so far at the Euros:
1) Cristiano Ronaldo: Cristiano Ronaldo has broken as many as 16 records during the last couple of weeks. He is currently the top scorer of Euro 2020 with 5 goals. He also went past Michel Platini’s record of most goals at the Euros and has equalled Ali Daei’s national record of 109 goals at the time of writing. Ronaldo is 36 years old and he is still one of the best players in the world. Despite scoring 3 penalties this summer, he has been simply phenomenal.
2) Romelu Lukaku: One player who is competing directly with Ronaldo not only at the Euros but also in Serie A is Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku had a great league campaign with Inter as he won the MVP award and he has carried over his form for Belgium. So far, Lukaku has scored 3 times and has been influential in the build-up play as well. He has completely rejuvenated his career since his move to Inter and is a seriously good striker now. As Belgium face Portugal on Sunday, that match could well decide who wins the golden boot as two of the top scorers go head-to-head.
3) Memphis Depay: A few players will feel hard done by not being included here but Memphis Depay has a slight edge over the rest. Depay has scored twice and recorded 2 assists in the group stage. He doesn’t have a lot of quality wingers or attackers alongside him but he is doing a great job for the Dutch outfit. Despite Netherlands’ departure in the round of 16, Memphis Depay’s selection is justified solely based on his group stage exploits.
