Aaron Ramsey’s performance against Turkey on Wednesday impressed both critics and fans of the Juventus midfielder. Ramsey and Bale, who have been at the heart of the Welsh side for around a decade now, combined well in their 2-0 win which places them well for a round of 16 berth.
Gareth Bale occupied more deeper positions and tried playing a through lob to Aaron Ramsey. While the former Arsenal man was guilty of missing a clear chance early on in thew game, he scored the game’s opening goal after controlling the ball on his chest beautifully and drilling it past the Turkish goalkeeper.
Despite Gareth Bale’s penalty miss, he was clearly the best player on the pitch which is solidified by the fact that he provided both the assists and created a bucket load of chances. However, it was great to see Aaron Ramsey being involved so heavily which certainly bodes well for the team going forward.
Many people thought that Ramsey’s career was finished after two injury plagued seasons at Juventus but his performance against Turkey suggested anything but. He also helped out in defence by making a last-ditch tackle on Mert Mulder in the 80th minute when Wales had a slim lead of 1-0.
“It’s been there for many years. We’ve done it for a while now,” Bale said of his connection with Ramsey.
“Obviously we always play for the shirt, we work hard as a team and it was great for him to get the first goal, get us off to a great start, and hopefully we can keep playing well together for the rest of the tournament.”
Wales have now garnered 4 points from what felt like a tough group for them considering the form of their star players. Their next match is against the table toppers Italy and Aaron Ramsey is ready for the challenge.
“I’ve got a few (Juventus) teammates playing for Italy so it will be nice for me out there,” Ramsey told the BBC on Wednesday.
“But I’m representing my country now and we will do everything to win that game.”
