Erik ten Hag says he will deal with Cristiano Ronaldo situation but wants the attention to be on the team after their win over the Spurs

Two second half goals from Manchester United helped the Red Devils win against a listless Tottenham Hotspur at the Old Trafford. It was Brazilian midfielder Fred who opened the scoring in the 47th minute for the hosts followed by a 69th minute goal from Bruno Fernandes as United picked a comfortable win at home and has now moved within a point’s difference with the top four in the Premier League.

However amidst all the positivity, star performances and goals from the Red Devils, the highlight of the day was when unused substitute Cristiano Ronaldo walked down the tunnel from the dugout even before the final whistle was blown by the match referee. It looked like the Portuguese forward  was not happy sitting on the bench and therefore he was agitated and decided to walk off.

The topic was raised by the media at the post game press conference to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag who duly acknowledges the incident and assures that the situation will be dealt with by him later. Speaking on the incident of Ronaldo walking off before the completion of the game, Ten Hag said, “I don’t pay attention to that, I will deal with that tomorrow. I want to keep the focus on the team.”

After a disappointing 0-0 draw against Newcastle United, the Red Devils needed to show character against a strong Tottenham team and they did just that. It was a complete performance from the team as they showed a lot of commitment and hunger to win these matches and move up the ladder in the Premier League. Hence the Dutch tactician praised everyone in his squad and not only the starters for a great show.

“It was magnificent from all 11 players. I have to correct myself. It was also a performance from the substitutes who came on. Once again, it was a squad performance. I think what we have seen is 11 players who defend and 11 who attack. I was pleased,” the Dutchman highlighted.

Cristiano Ronaldo is an icon of the sport and whatever he does becomes a big news but even his walking down the tunnel in agitation cannot simply take away from the fact that Erik ten Hag’s men were sensational on the day against Spurs and they simply did not allow Antonio Conte’s men to take control of the game and that was the comeback they needed after a draw draw against Newcastle United.

This win will give a lot of confidence to the Red Devils as they will face a tougher challenge in Chelsea in a couple of days at Stamford Bridge and a win will take them straight into the top four in the Premier League standings.
