Manchester United’s head coach Erik Ten Hag is hopeful that Liverpool’s win could be the club’s moment. United defeated the Reds by 4-3 in a thrilling contest in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Substitute Amad Diallo scored the winner in the 121st minute to seal a humdinger win for the Red Devils. Meanwhile, it has been a disappointing season for Manchester United and Ten Hag is hopeful that this big win could be the start of something special.
“This could be the moment,” Ten Hag said after the win. “The team has the belief and energy to do amazing things. When you beat Liverpool you can beat any opponent.”
After a see-saw season so far, Ten Hag’s future is hanging by a thin thread following the arrival of new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The Dutchman showered praise on his players for their fine performance.
“The first 35 minutes, we showed again that the future of this team is very bright,” he said. “There is huge potential. We have to get it out and get consistency. The first 35 minutes was very pleasing. They are great characters and the determination we see again.
“This season we have so many setbacks and every time we have to adapt.”
Ten Hag also hailed Amad Diallo, who scored the match-winning goal but was sent off for removing his shirt to celebrate the goal.
“I am so happy for him,” Ten Hag said. “He is one of the players who had huge setbacks. He returned but there is a lot of competition in his position and he doesn’t always get the time he deserves to play.
“It shows his contribution in scoring a goal, but we know he can do it. I am very pleased he can do it.”
Manchester United will next face Brentford on Saturday night.
